Last June, two female bears (27 and 16-year old) were transported from Leszno Zoo to the bear sanctuary in Bärenwald Müritz (the “Bear Forest”) in Germany. In the coming days, Michał, an 8-year old male, will be also moved from Braniewo zoo to the German sanctuary. There, the animals will have better conditions and enjoy large enclosures: the standard is 0.5 ha per one bear with forest, meadows and water bodies, thus imitating natural conditions. The actions have been led by Vier Pfoten in cooperation with Polish scientists working on captive bears. You are welcome to watch a movie shown on the German TV about how the immobilization and transport were done and how happy bears feel there now.
